Welcome to the age of uneducated stuntmen. This started the whole crazy amateur stuntman phenomenon. This TV Show turned movie churned out home-made video stunts created by a band of comedian-actors that would literally put their bodies and their lives on the line for any and all gags that they could imagine. Lead by Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Steve-O, Chris Pontius and Ryan Dunn with a few more crazy lunatics reoccurring throughout the series like Jason Acuna, Preston Lacy, Dave England, Ehren McGheney, Brandon DiCamillo, and even Director Spike Jonze jumping into the mix.
The shopping cart in the opening sequence was originally built for and used in the film “The Incredible Shrinking Woman” (1981). Preston Lacy spotted it on the studio lot, and it was incorporated into the film. The golf cart crashing sequence was somewhat delayed as Bam Margera totaled the two golf carts they had within seconds. The crew had to go out and purchase new ones.
Even though the film had the following warning: “Warning: The stunts in this movie were performed by professionals, so for your safety and the protection of those around you, do not attempt any of the stunts that you’re going to see in this film.”, none of the cast are trained stuntmen.
Jackass The Movie was directed by Jeff Tremaine for MTV Films.
